Hello and Thank You!

April 14, 2017

Hello there! Happy Friday to you. I hope you’ve got a nice relaxing weekend scheduled. Me? I’m on a crochet deadline. Ahem.

This month we are celebrating our continued love for Hero Arts with our “Anything Goes” challenge. Which means anything goes; watercolor, die cutting, stamping, ink blending, anything. As long as you use Hero Arts products, you can join us, and we hope you do. Just click on this challenge graphic to enter:

Here’s what I made. I have a pile of Hero Arts stencils that go largely ignored. Which annoys me. I like to use my products, I don’t like to just collect. So I grabbed a couple and made these.

This one is made with the Bold Floral Stencil, and was very easy to make.

  • Tape the stencil down to your work surface, over a piece of watercolor paper and then smoosh your versamark ink pad over the entire area so that instead of applying color to the stencil openings, you are applying embossing ink.
  • Sprinkle with white embossing powder and heat set that.
  • Watercolor the negative space left over from the stencil.
  • Stare at your card front in awe.

Here’s another example using the Long Leaves Stencil.

I hope you’ll try this, it’s quite easy, and you get to play with your stash of unused items. I know you have one of those, too.

How Have You Bean?

January 11, 2017

Hello everyone!

Coralynn here with my fist post for our “New to Me” challenge. I have to say that I had so much fun with the stamp sets from sponsor Right at Home this month. Even though there is nothing that I have done with this card that is new but this company is new to me. I haven’t had the pleasure until now to enjoy Nicole’s stamps and they are amazing!

For my card today I started out with the Rain Dance Pattern stencil from Hero Arts and used HA charcoal ink and added it to the lower right hand side of the front panel.

I then cut out the scalloped frame from white card stock and added foam tape and popped it up on to the front panel.  The I stamped the coffee cup with Intense black ink and coloured it in with copics and added the heart to the coffee sleeve with a copic safe black pen.  I then adhered the cup to the panel with liquid adhesive and foam tape.

For the sentiment I took a piece of vellum from my stash and stamped it with Versafine Onyx black in and the added clear embossing powder and heat set it with my heat gun.

To finish off the card I added a couple of black dots with Nuvo Crystal drops.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  We hope you’ll head over to the link up and play along with us.

Thanks for stopping by, see you again soon.

Coralynn 🙂

Fun with STENCILS!

March 11, 2015

Aloha friends!
It’s Niki G. here wanting to share some fun with this
beautiful patterned stencil!

I actually used a technique from the clever, Jennifer McGuire
of using rubber cement for masking!
I took the stencil and sponged on the rubber cement
on watercolor paper and allowed to dry.
Then I took Lawn Fawn’s newest inks in Mermaid and Deep Sea
and squooshed them on a craft mat, then sprayed with
a lot of water to get the colors to blend a bit.
Here’s where the magic begins…
I took the watercolor paper, faced down and allowed
the inks to soak in.  The parts that have the rubber cement
resist the ink.  I used my heating gun to speed up the dry time
and then rubbed off the rubber cement that leaves the white space!
So cool right?!
I broke up the panel to insert the sentiment and embellished.

I took it a step further in this next card…

I first inked up the stencil in an ombre fashion
with Sunflower and Fake Tan inks,
then sponged on rubber cement over the color.
(tip: make sure ink is completely dry before adding or removing rubber cement)
Then followed the same process above!

I can imagine a rainbow of these to make
a set of cards to give as a gift!

So now it’s your turn to get out those stencils and have fun!
Hero Arts has so many fun stencils, perfect for any style or occasion!!

I’d love to see your take on this fun technique and while you’re at it
why not join our next challenge…

for a chance to win

Can’t wait to see what you create!!

MAHALO for stopping by!

Egghunting with Create A Smile

March 3, 2015

Hello folks,
Gayatri here today. As you know this month we are collaborating with Create A Smile.
Create A Smile is a new stamp company launched in 2014. I was one of the lucky designers to participate in their launch blog hop. Christine’s set are so adorable and versatile. I also love her stencils and chipboard elements. Today I am sharing with couple of cards using Create A Smile stamp set Eggstraordinary Egghunt.

For the first card, I coupled this stamp set with Hero Arts new background stamp set called Lines.

I white heat embossed the Lines background stamp from Hero Arts on watercolour paper. Then watercoloured with Spun Sugar, Squeezed Lemonade and Shabby Shutters distress inks. while the background was left to dry, I white heat embossed the chicken image on watercolour paper. Then coloured the image using Mustard Seed and Wild Honey distress markers. Once dry, I cut the image out. I layered the chick image with a small rectangle vellum cardstock and bunched up thread.
The balloons are chipboards elements also from Create A Smile called  Patterned Balloons and Balloons. I simple tied twine to the balloons and tucked the twine behind the chicken image. The sentiment is simple stamped on strip of white cardstock and adhered using foam adhesives. Finally I added a pink heart shaped enamel dot from Prima Marketing on the nose of the chicken. Here is the closeup.

For the second card, I used masking technique and stamped all the images from Eggstraordinary Egghunt stamp set and watercoloured them.

I used distress markers to colour the images. Victorian Velvet for the pig, Wild Honey for the chicken, Iced Spruce for the cow and Broken China for the bunny. I then grounded them using Vintage Photo distress marker and watercoloured the background with Worn Lipstick. For the card front, I used  Medallion Patterned stencil from Hero Arts and sponged Squeezed Lemonade distress inks. I have attached black heart enamel dots on the nose of the chicken and bunny.

I love how bright and colourful both the cards turned out. Perfect spring easter cards.

Check out Create A Smile shop because they have some real cute stamp sets and stencils and chipboards and washi tapes 🙂 Combine them with you favourite Hero Arts products and create beautiful projects. Enjoy and have fun!
