A masculine card with…. glitter?

August 28, 2017

Good morning! Emily here with you today to share a far more masculine card than I normally share… As I was searching through the {massive} box of cards for a birthday card for my father in law, I realized that I had exactly 3 cards that didn’t have flowers on them and/or weren’t pink. So, he got a card with a dinosaur on it, chosen by my children. (When all else fails, let the kids pick haha!) I feel like this is an area that needs to be expanded in my card stash, so I took the opportunity for my solo post for A Blog Named Hero to start filling in that gap. Because our partner this month is the fabulous WOW! Embossing Powder, I thought it only fitting to use some of their fantastic array of colored embossing powders to create a festive birthday card in a masculine color scheme, though you’ll have to forgive me the glitter. Teehee!

I started with the fantastic Tassels set by Hero Arts. With a little creative masking from a helpful Post It Note, I created two lines of tassels in sparkly charcoal and pale blue embossing powder from WOW! on some medium gray card stock. Next, I heat embossed my sentiment (also from Hero Arts’s Tassels set) towards the bottom third of my A2 card panel, using the same baby blue embossing powder.

Next, I smooshed my Versamark pad onto the bottom of my top folding A2 card base, then covered it in the same glittery charcoal embossing powder and heated it up. I added a thin strip of shimmery pale blue paper to the bottom of my sentiment panel, then popped the whole thing up with some dimensional adhesive.

Fairly simple, but simpler is better for men, yes? Another card to add to the “masculine” stash!

That’s all for me today! Just as a reminder, you still have some time to enter your projects in our current challenge: Embossing! Just be sure to follow all of the rules so that your project is eligible for a fabulous prize from our fabulous sponsor, WOW!

Thank You Hero Arts!

July 30, 2016

It’s time to announce this month’s challenge winner, and Random.org has done its job once again.

#7 is Cat Craig! Thanks for playing along with us, Cat, please contact us for your prize from Hero Arts.

Thank you so much to Hero Arts for providing goodies for our Design Team this month and for sponsoring our challenge winner. We surely do adore you.

This month’s challenge was a hard one, masculine cards don’t come easy to all of us coloring, floral loving, sequin adhering crafters.

Here are some entries that caught our eyes this month:

Cute card from Kathy. Great images layered all together. Makes me want to barbecue.
Heather made this card, and I say anything with an animal on it is a winner. Hope her brother-in-law loves it.
Thank You for CPD Officer
LaVon Hall made this for her neighbor, who is on the Chicago Police Department arson squad.
That’s wonderful, LaVon. I love the sentiment behind it. Very sweet of you.

Tune in tomorrow for our August challenge. You’re going to love it.

Enjoy!

July 29, 2016

I thought I’d make a fun card with this new palm tree die from Hero Arts. I love this die. It comes in two pieces, one is the outline, and one is the tree itself. While I wouldn’t call this card masculine, to tie in with our challenge theme, I would call it neutral, which means it works for a man!
This was an easy card to make. Just some easy coloring with Zig markers and die cutting. I fancied it up a wee bit with a Wink of Stella marker.
Our challenge ends tomorrow night. I hope you’ll join us, great store credit from Hero Arts up for grabs!

Bursting into Fall

July 28, 2016

Hello! Hero Arts friends!

The Crafty Nurse here with another project using the Fall Color Layering set by Hero Arts for the A Blog Named Hero July “Masculine” challenge.

For this card I broke out the Color Bursts using the oranges, reds yellows, and browns scattering them from dark to light.  I used the sepia as a watercolor to create a ground then stamped the tree using the Hero Arts fall ink cubes.  I stamped the sentiment and then ran the panel through an embossing folder for extra texture.

There is only a few days left to enter.  We really want to thank Hero Arts for sponsoring this months challenge!  Happy inking!

Inside Out Ice Cream Cone

July 26, 2016

Hero Arts is our wonderful sponsor this month and a masculine card is the challenge.

I usually communicate with my grandkids by texting, but every once and awhile I send “just because” cards.  My grandson just got his first job in Baltimore after graduating with a degree in landscape architecture.  His favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip, so this card will be in the mail to him.

To create my card, I first die cut the ice cream cone on the card front.  Then stamped and die cut again from white cardstock.  I didn’t want the white edges of the die cut to show, so used a small brush and the ink to cover the edges of the cone and ice cream.  To make the chocolate on the ice cream special, I embossed with clear embossing powder.  Did the same for the sentiment on the card front.  I closed the card and fit the die cut pieces in the space and adhered to the inside.  Finally I used a stencil and sponged on some Versamark to make the dotted front.

Be sure to find time to create a masculine card for this month’s challenge and a chance to win a prize from Hero Arts!!  Link up your card here.

Thanks for visiting today – happy stamping!
