A Little Ombre Cup of Tea

August 17, 2014

The current challenge is Ombre, which happens to be something I really like. It’s just a very appealing look to me, and I always smile when I see it out in the “wild”.

Here’s my take on it, I made a simple card, more like a card you would attach to a gift. It measures three inches square, so cute! I plan to attach this to a gift of some teas for a friend of mine.

Just some simple watercoloring with Distress markers that I colored onto an acrylic block first. And a fun thing… I used Tea Dye distress ink to stamp the oval that represents the cup of tea. Ha!
Be sure to join us on this challenge. You could win a $25 gift certificate to Simon Says Stamp. Great release of new products this month from them. Again. 🙂

Hello Friend

July 17, 2014

Hello Friends! Lisa here with this month’s solo post featuring our collaboration with Paper Smooches! I would like to take a moment to thank Paper Smooches for the chance to work with their stamps. Such high quality, stamped perfectly the first time. That makes this stamper very happy! And I just adore the whimsical illustrations from this company. They make me smile.
The challenge this half of the month is one layer cards. Which seem to be simple, yet
sometimes present a bigger challenge. Don’t ask which version of this card this is… ahem.
This was very fun to make, and I used just the one stamp set from Paper Smooches. It comes with some smaller images, three stars and three hearts. I used the three stars on this background, as you can see. Some simple embossing with white embossing powder, on watercolor paper. I also placed two of the sentiments from this set onto my block to get the spacing the way I wanted.
Love that I can place these sentiments together to make longer phrases.

After I embossed, I used some Distress Inks and a mini blending tool to sponge the ink onto the paper. Lighter color all over, concentrating in the middle. Then some darker blue on the edges, and finally some Antique Linen along the edges, which ends up turning a bit green, and makes this look a little bit like a galaxy to me. Which I LOVE! Added some droplets of water mixed in with Perfect Pearls, and that’s the card. So easy to make, and I think it’s very fun. Makes a nice impact on the recipient.
Don’t forget to join us in our challenge for your chance to win a $25 gift voucher to our awesome sponsor, Simon Says Stamp! They had a new release on July 11th. Have you seen it?
Go look, it’s fantastic, as always! My wallet might be hiding.

It’s Always Been You

May 17, 2014

It’s Lisa, back with another card featuring the wonderful Love Quotes Set from Mama Elephant.

As you might know, we are collaborating with Mama Elephant this month, and it has been a real pleasure to use this stamp set. It stamps beautifully, right from the start, which really makes this crafter happy. I have enough issues, I don’t need my stamps to be uncooperative. ;o)

I used the solid speech bubble image to stamp the image on the left, then flipped it over and got the image on the right. I like being able to use both sides of the stamp.

This stamp set comes with a small heart image that was perfect to use for a little directional help. To show you who is saying what. I love that it goes both ways. Either bird can be saying either thing.

A little Wink of Stella on the girl’s hair, of course. I might be addicted to that little pen. Who wants some Wink of Stella lip gloss?

I used a double layer of foam tape on the left bubble, to give it a bit more dimension.

At the last minute, I decided to give the boy bird some darker hair. Just a little delineation for him.

I do hope you’ll join us for our latest challenge, where you can win a $25 gift card to Simon Says Stamp, our awesome sponsor.

It’s all about embossing. I’d love to see what you make!

Thanks for stopping by. We do appreciate your visit.

Floral Birthday Card

April 17, 2014

Hello! It’s Lisa here, with a simple, yet luscious, card I made for my mother’s upcoming birthday. I have always loved this bold and whimsical flower from the Layered Flowers stamp set from Hero Arts. It’s a bit tougher to find these days, but I’ve included links to some newer stamp sets from Hero Arts that would work just as well.
I stamped the focal image just twice. And had it run off the card, there’s something very organic about that that appeals to me. Colored the images with some Distress Markers. Easy, and fantastic color choices.

Then I used a clear Wink of Stella to go over the inner petals. I wasn’t really hooked on this pen the first time I used it. The second time sold me. It really is the perfect amount of shimmer, in an easy, no mess applicator. Go, buy one. I’ll wait for you to come back. 🙂

Then I used an amazing stencil from Simon Says Stamp. I borrowed this from a friend, but will now have to acquire my own. I can see myself using this a lot. It’s called Falling Snow, and it’s just spectacular. Here’s where I fell in love with yet another new product that I didn’t think I was going to need. I was wrong. Delicata Gold ink. Holy wow. It is perfect. It’s a rich, dark gold. Not too bright, and just lovely. I would recommend buying the refill when you buy the ink pad. You’re going to be using this ink a lot more than you think you are. Trust me.

Just look at that lovely gold there. I think the stenciling added just the right touch to finish off the card. I was very pleased with the final result. Clean and simple, but also very elegant.

On the inside, I used this fantastic stamp from Simon Says Stamp, which is part of their Happy Every Day stamp set. Fills the inside of the card nicely, and I love the mix of fonts.

Dear Santa: Week 3, Day 4

November 21, 2013

Hello!! All of us at A Blog Named Hero hope you’re enjoying our
special Christmas event for November – we certainly are!  Not only
because we get to make and share some projects with you, but also
because of all the fabulous visitors we get to host!  Today, we have
some wonderfully inspirational projects from guest designers Tenia Nelson and Lisa Stein, and some equally gorgeous decor
items from regular design team members, Cheiron, Sue, Lucy and
Christine!

First up is this very cute star ornament from Tenia Nelson.

Tenia Nelson

I love the music on the Hero Arts stamp Tenia used – very appropriate for a Chrismas ornament!

This cute little stamped and painted embroidery hoop is from Lisa Stein.

Lisa Stein

I just adore the little touch of Glossy Accents on Rudolph’s nose!!

Lucy has made a really cool wreath, using a whole bunch of paper from Lawn Fawn’s Into the Woods collection. She has also stamped a wreath using the little branches from Avery Elle’s “Laurels” stamp set – so clever!

Lucy Newton

Here is the cutest little triptych ever from Cheiron Brandon:

Cheiron Brandon
Doesn’t this just make you smile!?

Sue has painted and stamped some oh-so-cute wooden butterflies for her niece’s bedroom wall.

Close-up of the glittery goodness – I’m sure Sue’s niece will love them!

Last, but not least, is Christine’s candle holder.  The fawn from Lawn Fawn, the trees from Avery Elle, and the falling snowflakes from Hero Arts work perfectly together in this project, and I’m pretty sure that the row of die-cut circles (Simon Says Stamp’s Circle Border die) would allow the candle within to cast some lovely light patterns around the room!

Christine Drogt
As always, we send a huge thank you to all of the companies that are participating on this event:  Hero Arts, CAS-ual Fridays, Lawn Fawn, American Crafts – Amy Tangerine, Avery Elle, Simon Says Stamp,  Kelly Purkey and Neat and Tangled!

We are so luck to have Simon Says Stamp as one of our amazing sponsors – if you have commented on Monday’s post, make sure you come back tomorrow to check out if you’re the winner of the sampler pack of new Hero Arts goodies, thanks to Simon!

Thanks for visiting us again, today – make sure you come back tomorrow, and every day next week for more inspiration!
