Hello crafty friends! I am back with another card. In honor of A Blog Named Hero celebrating their 9 year anniversary our theme this month is Anniversary cards.
This year my husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary. When we got married we went to Monterey, California for a short honeymoon. We still go there often on our anniversary or just to get away for a weekend. We stay at a beautiful beachfront inn overlooking the historic Cannery Row and I absolutely love it there. The inspiration for my card came from our trips to Monterey.
I started by using the Color Layering Wave stamp set on two card panels. I stamped them exactly the same using reactive inks in Early Dawn, Blue Hawaii and Blue Water. Then I used a blending brush and Cup of Joe ink to blend the sand area. I used Embossing and Watermark ink pad to swipe across the sand area and embossed with Sand embossing powder.
I knew I wanted the word YOU from the Love You Stamp and Cut XL to be die cut from the sand and waves and have a continuous look from the back panel. I lined up the word die and die cut from one of the background panels. I also stacked it on two more plain white die cuts for extra dimension.
I masked off the waves and ink blended the sky using Early Dawn reactive ink but I didn’t like it. My blending wasn’t very smooth and I couldn’t fix it. But, I didn’t want to start over so I cut the wave part off with my paper trimmer. Then I took the same reactive ink and used it to watercolor. I started at the top of the panel with a more intense color and then watered it down closer to the horizon line. I liked this look a lot better. The watercolor made subtle lines that looked like a wispy sky.
Once that was completely dry, I attached the sky panel to an A2 top folding note card. Then I attached the wave panel to the bottom of the card. I placed the word die where I wanted and then lined up the sentiment in my stamp positioner. The sentiment came from the Coloring Layering Waves set and says “Life is better with sandy feet.” I masked off the sandy feet part and only inked up the “life is better with” and stamped using Intensified Black Ink. I also stamped the sail boat and birds from the Layering Sea and Sky stamp set.
Once all that was done, I nestled the word die into the sentiment and adhered it with Precision Glue.
I love this card. The ocean layering stamp is one of my all-time favorites from Hero Arts and the XL Stamp and Cuts are so versatile!
Thank you for checking out my card. I hope you made an anniversary card for this month’s challenge because there are a couple of Hear Arts gift vouchers up for grabs!
