An elephant remembers everything

July 13, 2019

Hello everyone. I hope you are all having awonderful day wherever you are. I am here today to share with you a conclusion of the month of sympathy before we will be back shortly to present a new and fun theme for you.

My last card for you this month is a card that can be used for sympathy as well as friendship and love. I love this elephant from the June My Monthly Hero kit. He is so adorable. I decided to use him with the sentiment from the May 2018 My Monthly Hero kit, because, as you know, an elephant never forgets the beautiful moments.

I also wanted to use the thorn tree die, but since I am on my summer vacation I didn’t have my die cutting tool with me. So…I needed to be creative. I used my die as a stamp in my stamp platform, raising the platform up using fun foam. My image was barely visible so I traced the image using a black pen and voila…the thorn tree could be used.

I colored the thorn tree and my elephant using copic markers and highlighted them with a white gel pen.

I cut my card panel to size using a stitched rectangle die and then ink blended my background using the following ink colors on white cardstock:
Grass: Green hills and Nest
Sky: Just rust, Orange Soda and Ultra pink
For the blending I used blending brushes to create an almost canvas-like texture.

I attatched my images using foam tape and stamped my sentiment using black ink before adding even more foam tape behind the panel to raise it up from my white card base.

I finished the card by scattering a few sequins on the card coordinating them to the color beneith.

Be sure to come back the 15th to see our new challenge.

Make yourself a lovely day.

Hero Arts Agapanthus Sympathy Card

July 6, 2019

Hi Everyone, Kristina here, I hope you’re having a great weekend. There’s a little bit of time left on the June ‘Sympathy‘ challenge so I’ve got one more piece of inspiration for you. I’ve combined several stamps set here to make this floral sympathy card.

Hero Arts Agapanthus Sympathy Card

The challenge runs until the 10th and you can link up your projects over on the Main Challenge page.

The Process

  • I started by die cutting two different sizes of circle infinity dies from two shades of green card stock to create a layered step down window.
  • After adhering the two window pieces together I used the opening to lightly trace a circle on a piece of watercolor paper
  • To do my watercoloring I first painted clean water to fill my circle, then added Deep Ocean Liquid Watercolor in two layers, letting it fill up what will be the background for my window.
  • While that dries, stamp, color, and cut out your stamped images. I used Copic Markers for my coloring.
  • To assemble I adhered the two green card panels onto the watercolor paper, and then arranged my florals and adhered them down with a strong liquid adhesive, stamping my sentiment last so the placement was perfect
  • For final embellishments I added some sequins, which I topped with glossy accents for a little extra shine, and adhered the whole thing down to an a2 sized top folding card base.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Hero Arts – Hang in There

June 30, 2019

Hello and thanks so much for stopping by. Sandi here with two more cards for this month’s “sympathy card” challenge.

Before I get into my cards, don’t forget there is still plenty of time to submit your entry to this month’s challenge. Create your version of a Sympathy card and enter it here. We can’t wait to see what you create.

Today I’m creating with the Hero arts – Hang In There stamp/die combo set.

Once I had colored my main images with copics, I decided I wanted to step it up a bit with a blended/stenciled background to really highlight the art pieces.

Hero Arts – Hang in There – Card #1

  • For the first card, I colored the image and then die cut it with the coordinating dies.
  • Next I laid the Scroll work stencil onto the background and use my life changing brushes to sponge Hero Arts Ink Just Rust and Butter bar onto the top left corner of the card front.
  • When I took the stencil off, the stencil outline was “really white”, so I brushed on more of the butter bar ink to tone it down.
  • Stamping the sentiment over on the left side helps to balance the card and attaching the die cut image to the front with foam tape adds dimension.
  • Adding a piece of twine through the plant hanger grounds the image and I pulled it up over and to the back to secure it.
  • The art piece is attached to a piece of Faded Brick 4-1/4 x 5-1/2.
  • I like white card bases therefore,  I mounted this to a A2 Dove White card base.

Hero Arts – Hang in There – Card #2
For card #2 the steps are very similar to card #1.  with a little change up in the stencil steps.

  • I started by brushing on Antigua and Aquatic Hero Arts Ink.
  • Then I laid the Starry Night stencil down and brushed on more Aquatic ink.
  • The card front is mounted to a piece of Blue Lagoon 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 and again mounted to a A2 – Dove White card base.
  • My potted plant is attached with foam tape to add a little dimension to the card.

If you would like a free PDF download for both of these cards and a short video on how I colored the images, stop over to my personal blog here.

Thanks again for stopping in, I hope you found inspiration from the cards and until next time, Happy Stamping

A Little Floral Sympathy

June 21, 2019

Hi, everyone, it’s Lee Ann here. I hope you have had a great week and are ready to spend some time cardmaking this weekend Today I’m sharing another Sympathy card featuring some of the stamps from the Hero Arts Vault along with a great technique using the new Reactive Inks from Hero Arts. These are a hybrid sort of like the Distress Oxides but they do not oxidize so you get creamy watercolor looks but more transparent color.

I wanted to make this one very soft and light feeling so I arranged all of the little flowers stamps from the Little Florals set on some white Tim Holtz watercolor paper and embossed them with white embossing powder as well. leaving room for the sentiment in the bottom third. After the embossing had cooled I pressed some ink directly from the pad onto my glass media mat and very roughly started picking up the colors and painted with the rule of three’s and a visual triangle around my sentiment in mind.

I used the new reactive inks, in  Taffy, Lemon Drop, Creamsicle, Blue Rasberry, Splash and Grape Slush, sort of painting into the areas for specific flowers but not being precise at all.  This is very easy and simple and will turn out great as long as you keep the orange, red and green separate, the rest will mix beautifully. Do not worry about doing this perfectly it is supposed to have an artistic layered look, ethereal and floaty. Definitely not within the lines!

When my piece had dried I colored in all of the flowers with a Versamark pen and then added clear embossing powder over the top.  After that was smooth and melted and had cooled I took the white Sea Salt Ink and pressed it on the card and dragged it all over, I wanted to damp down the background to almost white and get it to look almost painted. I then took a baby wipe and cleaned off all of the flowers where the clear embossing powder was and the brighter watercolor revealed itself.

This is a great technique called Joseph’s Coat, you are simply masking off the color underneath with clear embossing powder and then re-inking the background, so that there is a difference between what is embossed and not. This can be very dramatic with a dark ink over light or bright colors or soft and sweet with a white or lightened background with softer colors showing through as it is here.

After the panel had dried I ran it through my die-cutting machine to flatten it and added some craft foam to the back so it would just be slightly raised off of the card.  I heat embossed the Thinking of you sentiment from the   “Messages with a Flourish” set on a piece of light blue vellum that matched the inky water coloring in silver embossing powder. I wrapped this around the panel to hold it in place with no adhesive and then adhered the panel to a card base of Hero Arts Wood Grain cardstock from one of the MMH Kits.

I hope you like this technique and give it a try. Don’t forget to enter your card in the June challenge, there are a couple of Hero Arts Gift cards for prizes! Click here for all the details.

Thanks so much for stopping by, More details on my blog if you are interested!
