Layered Slimline Card

March 16, 2021

Greetings Friends. It’s Teri and I am posting today for the March A Blog Named Hero Challenge – Floral Cards.I stepped out of my comfort zone to create this layered floral card with muted colors. I tend to go big and bright, so this is a little different!  Check out the Challenge Blog! There are prizes!

It all started with a stencil from the Crossing Waves Stencil.  In order to cover the slimline base, you need a symmetrical stencil where you can ink blend a portion of the stencil and shift to cover the rest of the base. I used Soft Olive Shadow Ink.

I have a short video documenting the process here:

I used the Protea Flowers Stamp Set to create dimension on the card.  Multiples were stamped on watercolor paper with Black Ink.  I watercolored several of the blooms gearing towards muted colors. Once dry, I fussy cut them out.

The card was assembled by gluing the stencil background on the front of a slimline base. The center portion is a cream cardstock cut 7.5 x 2.5 inches and stacked of 2 additional pieces of cardstock. Once centered on the base, I added the Protea Flowers with the bottom center flower popped up with foam tape. The sentiment was stamped and added.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Be sure to visit A Blog Named Hero and enter the challenge. There are prizes!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I’d love to have you follow/subscribe on my social media sites Instagram, Facebook, Blogger and You Tube.  Be well. Be creative!

Layered Tropical Florals

February 25, 2021

Greetings crafty friends! I am thrilled to share that I am a new Design Team Member for A Blog Named Hero, a dream come true.  A little bit about me – I live in the midwest and have been having so much fun playing with paper and making and sharing cards!  I have linked all of my channels and sites here: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Blog. I would love to have you follow and subscribe.

The challenge this month is Anything Goes. Check out the deets here. Join in the fun and be eligible for one of two gift vouchers from our beloved sponsor!

I used the Die DI649 Leaves and Vines for the background on both cards. I’ll start with the Floral card.

The green background was created by ink blending Hero Arts inks: Green Hills, Green Apple, Lime Green and Fresh Lawn on a piece of white cardstock. After die cutting, I attached the green leaves to a white A2 card base. The flowers from CM372 Tropical Flowers were stamped in black ink and colored with Copics. I fussy cut out the images for layering.

The flowers were layered on the front, with a stamped Thank You from CM251 Hand Drawn Every Day Messages. One flower and leaf was attached to the strip for dimension. I did add two addition cardstock strips under the sentiment.

Check out the quick video for this card here:

The next card uses the same background die with a twist!

This card started with an alcohol ink base from my stash. I cut the Leaves and Vine Die 3 times from white cardstock and glued them together for dimension.

The sentiment was white heat embossed using a sentiment from the Tropical Flower Stamp set.

As you can see, I trimmed a few of the center leaves from the white die cut to allow the sentiment to show through prior to gluing to the alcohol base.

The last step was to mount on an A2 white cardbase.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I’d love to have you follow/subscribe on my social media sites Instagram, Facebook, Blogger and You Tube.  Be well. Be creative!

Autumn See Through Layers

October 21, 2020

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a lovely fall and I am not quite ready for winter cards yet so I wanted to focus on some beautiful fall colors but all with this month’s theme of a “see-through element”. For all three of this month’s cards, I created autumn-colored backgrounds with a Gelli plate and acrylic paint and then used my two favorite See-Through techniques using a raised frame (The Window Die) and a strip of vellum to hold a sentiment over a colorful, busy background. I love layers and using a very colorful textured print with stamping on top is wonderful but sometimes hard to add a sentiment on top.

The See-Through Vellum pairs beautifully with a die-cut on top like the  Sunflower Fancy Die or the beautiful garden window both from Hero Arts. I stamped on top of the colorful backgrounds with complementary fall colors, dark brown shadow ink for the silhouetted images on top. I like to set a color palette when I start and for this, it was orange, olive green, and a butter yellow.

I also combined stamps from four Hero Arts stamp sets and three dies from my collection.  It is so nice to get out all of your supplies from a season and mix them all up.  I hope this inspires you to create some painted or stamped backgrounds and overlay them with some Vellum, Fancy die-cuts, and or windows.

Make sure that you link up your See-Through creations for a chance to win a $50 gift card from our wonderful sponsor Hero Arts.

We look forward to seeing your makes! Lee Ann

Embossing 4 Ways

July 21, 2020

This month’s challenge is Embossing and I have to say that it is by far one of my most favorite things to do in cardmaking, it is just magical the way that embossing powder melts to give you a shiny, raised sentiment, pattern or element to color. This set of cards uses Embossing all of those ways and also adds another which most people do not obviously go to but I will also show you some examples of detail embossing.

ABNH Embossing group.jpg

For these cards, I used two older Hero Arts woodblock background stamps that are so flexible I have used them both over and over, combined with white die-cut backgrounds and the Togetherness Flower Bouquet stamp set and sentiments from one of the first My Monthly Hero Kits that I thought went well with this combo. These projects really show how much fun it is to collect things you like and mix them up with your other favorites. The formula for all these cards was One large floral + stamped and embossed background +Wide layered sentiment strip. I like to make multiples of cards and my process starts with making all of the parts to mix and match, so first I stamped two charcoal grey and two pink backgrounds and 3 bouquets and die cut a couple of panels of the white background die. I also pulled out different sentiments and made matching cardstock strips as well.

ABNHEmbossing_grey1.jpg
ABNHEmbossing_pink2.jpg

For the two cards above I watercolored the Flowers with some Hero Hues Inks and a waterbrush. The top one with the gold embossing I kept the bouquet whole but for the bottom one I cut off the bottom flowers off of it and another for another card shown below. On the other pink card with the bouquet embossed in white on the background I also used selective embossing, where I used an embossing pen and colored over parts of the petals and used white satin pearl embossing powder to them. You can use detail embossing to add gold accents or highlights or give a more continuous look to differently colored items such as the two cards below.

Using the bouquest as a simple background in white embossing makes pulls the bouquet together on the panel.

Using the bouquest as a simple background in white embossing makes pulls the bouquet together on the panel.

Here I also usesd White Satin Pearl embossing powder on the petals of the flowers as well as the background. It is hard to see but it looks so pretty and pearly in the light.

So let’s count the embossing ways…  1- Embossing a flower or other for containing your water-coloring, 2- Embossing a background with clear embossing powder for a subtle pattern, 3-Embossing a dark color background with white ink and clear embossing powder and 4- detail embossing using an embossing pen to add selective details to small areas of your cards. with background.

I hope you like these cards and that they gave you some inspiration for other ways to add embossing to your cards. Make sure you join in the challenge. You have until 5pm EST on the 10th of August to enter the challenge via the link tool below!
