Layered Tropical Florals

February 25, 2021

Greetings crafty friends! I am thrilled to share that I am a new Design Team Member for A Blog Named Hero, a dream come true.  A little bit about me – I live in the midwest and have been having so much fun playing with paper and making and sharing cards!  I have linked all of my channels and sites here: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Blog. I would love to have you follow and subscribe.

The challenge this month is Anything Goes. Check out the deets here. Join in the fun and be eligible for one of two gift vouchers from our beloved sponsor!

I used the Die DI649 Leaves and Vines for the background on both cards. I’ll start with the Floral card.

The green background was created by ink blending Hero Arts inks: Green Hills, Green Apple, Lime Green and Fresh Lawn on a piece of white cardstock. After die cutting, I attached the green leaves to a white A2 card base. The flowers from CM372 Tropical Flowers were stamped in black ink and colored with Copics. I fussy cut out the images for layering.

The flowers were layered on the front, with a stamped Thank You from CM251 Hand Drawn Every Day Messages. One flower and leaf was attached to the strip for dimension. I did add two addition cardstock strips under the sentiment.

Check out the quick video for this card here:

The next card uses the same background die with a twist!

This card started with an alcohol ink base from my stash. I cut the Leaves and Vine Die 3 times from white cardstock and glued them together for dimension.

The sentiment was white heat embossed using a sentiment from the Tropical Flower Stamp set.

As you can see, I trimmed a few of the center leaves from the white die cut to allow the sentiment to show through prior to gluing to the alcohol base.

The last step was to mount on an A2 white cardbase.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I’d love to have you follow/subscribe on my social media sites Instagram, Facebook, Blogger and You Tube.  Be well. Be creative!

It’s Always a Good Idea (To Send a Little Love)

February 17, 2021

Hello Card Making Friends, old and new!

I’m Essie (@essiecards on Facebook, @escards on Instagram, and  www.essiemakescards.blogspot.com.)  I’m excited to bring you my first post as part of the 2021 Design Team for A Blog Named Hero!  As a long-time fan of Hero Arts, being part of this talented team is my crafty dream come to life.

I have two teenagers and a tolerant-of-my-hobby husband.  We live and work in the Mid-Atlantic portion of the United States and, at the moment, we are all looking hard for a pair of kittens to join our busy household.

And that’s enough about me for now–let me share some cards with you!

For this month’s “Anything Goes” challenge, I made a set of four cards that send love.  Whether we send cards like this for the Valentine holiday last week or to simply tell friends and loved ones that we are thinking of them, brightening someone else’s mailbox with color and affection is always a good idea!

Below are two closeups of the most elaborate of these cards–a  silvery bow-tied, heat embossed vellum card that opens up to a  watercolored version of that same candy hearts peekaboo stamp.   I love the soft blurry depth this gives the vellum card front.

The interior watercolored panel also opens so that my handwritten message can be tucked away rather privately.  A love-shaped die cut gives a little hint at the interior bright pink sentiment

But…I had more heat-embossed panels, so I made three more cards!

First, I used my favorite peekaboo die to make little window that fit around each of the candy hearts.  I shined up those candy hearts with a little glimmer and clear lacquer.  Each window  opens to reveal more hearts–in fact, that itty-bitty heart stamp was part of the love stamp and cut set I used in the first card.

Finally, to use up the last of my candy heart panels, I pulled out my January 2020 Hero Arts kit (which is coming back as permanent stock — check out page 29 of the 2021 spring catalogue!) I die cut the kit’s tiny envelope and flowers to quickly make two more cards.

So, that was four cards in a crafty afternoon–one complicated, one peekaboo (love that peekaboo die!), and two that I call “easy hearts & flowers.”

I hope you enjoyed this post!  More new teammates will be posting here in the coming days, and we’ll be back every month to offer up a new challenge and some ideas you might try in your card making adventures.

I hope you’ll play along with our Anything Goes Challenge this month.  I look forward to seeing your latest creations!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

Winter Wishes

November 1, 2017

Hello everyone!

It’s Donna here and we are collaborating with another one of my favorite companies which is Neat & Tangled!   All month long the design team will have lots of inspiration from Neat & Tangled.  Make sure you come back to join in on the challenge which will be announced November 6th, so make sure you come back.

Now onto my card, my card is an A2 card, I started by die cutting the Hero Arts Snowflake Confetti Fancy Frame with white card stock using my big shot machine.  I then used Distressed inks to create the blue background.  I then cut a piece of silver glitter paper to go behind the snowflakes to give them some dimension.  I then stamped all the images I wanted to use from the Neat & Tangled Merry Kisses (aren’t those fox so cute!), I colored all the elements with copic markers. I then die cut the word “winter” with silver glitter paper and the background with black card stock from  the Neat & Tangled Hello Winter Die set.   The sentiment “wishes” is from the Hero Arts Color Layering Dimensional Bird which I stamped and embossed with silver embossing powder.

My card was inspired by one of the design team members Kelly Szafron which was created back in March 2017.  Here is the link if you want to see how she crated her card.

I hope I have inspired you in some way to get those embossing materials out and have fun! Thank you so much for stopping by, please come back again soon.
