Here is the story of how Hero Arts got their name, once you’ve read this, you’ll understand why we really only had one choice for our blog name 🙂
How Hero Got Its Name
Jackie Leventhal, founder of Hero Arts, Inc., was an art teacher and photographer in the early 1970s. Her photography was being shown in a prominent exhibit when she received a letter of admiration from a fan of her work that was decorated with a splash of antique stamp images. Jackie was instantly in love.
Over the next couple of years, Jackie made her own stamps. She also taught her students the art of stamping. She even bought herself a small vulcanizer to make rubber stamps in her home.
A young author got wind of Jackie’s passion for stamping and asked Jackie to illustrate a children’s book with rubber stamps. Jackie agreed. The book, titled A Girl Named Hero, was soon published with stamped images. The heroine of the book was named Hero, and Jackie identified with the character she brought to life, since Hero was creative, brave, innovative, and independent.
Jackie soon realized rubber stamps were more than just a hobby. She decided to start a business selling stamps. In the process, Jackie many times called on the characteristics Hero personified in the children’s book. The obvious choice for the name of Jackie’s new rubber stamp business was Hero Arts.
Today, Hero Arts, Inc. is a leader in the industry, innovating new and creative products year after year. Jackie and her staff remain today just as brave and independent as A Girl Named Hero.
