Hero Arts – Hang in There

June 30, 2019

Hello and thanks so much for stopping by. Sandi here with two more cards for this month’s “sympathy card” challenge.

Before I get into my cards, don’t forget there is still plenty of time to submit your entry to this month’s challenge. Create your version of a Sympathy card and enter it here. We can’t wait to see what you create.

Today I’m creating with the Hero arts – Hang In There stamp/die combo set.

Once I had colored my main images with copics, I decided I wanted to step it up a bit with a blended/stenciled background to really highlight the art pieces.

Hero Arts – Hang in There – Card #1

  • For the first card, I colored the image and then die cut it with the coordinating dies.
  • Next I laid the Scroll work stencil onto the background and use my life changing brushes to sponge Hero Arts Ink Just Rust and Butter bar onto the top left corner of the card front.
  • When I took the stencil off, the stencil outline was “really white”, so I brushed on more of the butter bar ink to tone it down.
  • Stamping the sentiment over on the left side helps to balance the card and attaching the die cut image to the front with foam tape adds dimension.
  • Adding a piece of twine through the plant hanger grounds the image and I pulled it up over and to the back to secure it.
  • The art piece is attached to a piece of Faded Brick 4-1/4 x 5-1/2.
  • I like white card bases therefore,  I mounted this to a A2 Dove White card base.

Hero Arts – Hang in There – Card #2
For card #2 the steps are very similar to card #1.  with a little change up in the stencil steps.

  • I started by brushing on Antigua and Aquatic Hero Arts Ink.
  • Then I laid the Starry Night stencil down and brushed on more Aquatic ink.
  • The card front is mounted to a piece of Blue Lagoon 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 and again mounted to a A2 – Dove White card base.
  • My potted plant is attached with foam tape to add a little dimension to the card.

If you would like a free PDF download for both of these cards and a short video on how I colored the images, stop over to my personal blog here.

Thanks again for stopping in, I hope you found inspiration from the cards and until next time, Happy Stamping

Stay Golden

June 27, 2019

Hi everyone, it’s Caren here!  hope everyone is having a great week, I’m looking forward to the short work week next week for the Fourth of July!

Today I have a fun Fishy card to share with you today.

ABNH_CB_0627

I used Hero Art’s Fishy stamp and die set to create this card.  I stamped the fishbowl onto some patterned paper that had a slight blue gradient with a few blue speckles.  I also stamped the bottom part of the fishbowl onto brown patterned paper and cut out the sand part of the bowl.  I paper pieced this onto the fishbowl.  I stamped the fish and rocks onto some white card stock and used the dies to cut out the fish.  I hand cut the rocks.

I heat embossed the Stay Golden sentiment onto black card stock and trimmed the piece to fit the sentiment.  The fish, rocks, and bottom of the fishbowl was colored with Copic markers.

I die cut a piece of light brown wood-grained patterned paper with a rectangle die that has wonky stitching.  I backed this piece with a piece of black card stock.  I adhered the fishbowl, fish, and rocks onto this panel.  The sentiment was adhered to the panel using dimensional adhesive.  This was then attached to a white card base to finish the card.

June - Sympathy

Don’t forget to join the monthly challenge – this month’s theme is Sympathy.

Thanks for stopping by!

Love And Thanks

June 24, 2019

Hi there, I hope you’re having a lovely day! Seeka here and today I have a thank you card featuring some items from the latest Hero Arts release. But before talk about the card, don’t forget that this month’s challenge has just started and there’s still plenty of time to submit your entry!

For my card today, I started by stamping several images from the Tropical Flowers stamp set in Intense Black ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock. Then I used Copics to color them in. I used BG45, BG15, and BG49 for the leaves, and R30, R32, and R35 for the flower. I also stamped the sentiment onto a strip of Neenah and then cut all of the pieces out and set them aside.

For the background, I inked up the Jungle Bold Prints background stamp in Soft Pool onto an A2-sized piece of Neenah which I trimmed to 4″ x 5.25″. I also stamped in Ocean ink onto a A2-sized piece of Adriatic cardstock for a tone-on-tone look.

To assemble the card, I adhered the three palm leaves onto the white background and then adhered the sentiment strip over them. I added the flower with foam tape and then backed the whole panel with foam tape before adhering it to the Adriatic piece. Finally, I adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base and added a small dot of Diamond Stickles to the center of the flower.

Thank you so much for visiting!

A Little Floral Sympathy

June 21, 2019

Hi, everyone, it’s Lee Ann here. I hope you have had a great week and are ready to spend some time cardmaking this weekend Today I’m sharing another Sympathy card featuring some of the stamps from the Hero Arts Vault along with a great technique using the new Reactive Inks from Hero Arts. These are a hybrid sort of like the Distress Oxides but they do not oxidize so you get creamy watercolor looks but more transparent color.

I wanted to make this one very soft and light feeling so I arranged all of the little flowers stamps from the Little Florals set on some white Tim Holtz watercolor paper and embossed them with white embossing powder as well. leaving room for the sentiment in the bottom third. After the embossing had cooled I pressed some ink directly from the pad onto my glass media mat and very roughly started picking up the colors and painted with the rule of three’s and a visual triangle around my sentiment in mind.

I used the new reactive inks, in  Taffy, Lemon Drop, Creamsicle, Blue Rasberry, Splash and Grape Slush, sort of painting into the areas for specific flowers but not being precise at all.  This is very easy and simple and will turn out great as long as you keep the orange, red and green separate, the rest will mix beautifully. Do not worry about doing this perfectly it is supposed to have an artistic layered look, ethereal and floaty. Definitely not within the lines!

When my piece had dried I colored in all of the flowers with a Versamark pen and then added clear embossing powder over the top.  After that was smooth and melted and had cooled I took the white Sea Salt Ink and pressed it on the card and dragged it all over, I wanted to damp down the background to almost white and get it to look almost painted. I then took a baby wipe and cleaned off all of the flowers where the clear embossing powder was and the brighter watercolor revealed itself.

This is a great technique called Joseph’s Coat, you are simply masking off the color underneath with clear embossing powder and then re-inking the background, so that there is a difference between what is embossed and not. This can be very dramatic with a dark ink over light or bright colors or soft and sweet with a white or lightened background with softer colors showing through as it is here.

After the panel had dried I ran it through my die-cutting machine to flatten it and added some craft foam to the back so it would just be slightly raised off of the card.  I heat embossed the Thinking of you sentiment from the   “Messages with a Flourish” set on a piece of light blue vellum that matched the inky water coloring in silver embossing powder. I wrapped this around the panel to hold it in place with no adhesive and then adhered the panel to a card base of Hero Arts Wood Grain cardstock from one of the MMH Kits.

I hope you like this technique and give it a try. Don’t forget to enter your card in the June challenge, there are a couple of Hero Arts Gift cards for prizes! Click here for all the details.

Thanks so much for stopping by, More details on my blog if you are interested!

It’s that time again, where we challenge you to create something beautiful!

ChallengeSympathy
This month we thought we’d challenge you to something a little different, something that can be a bit more difficult to create at the time it’s needed most. Having a few of these cards on hand can be very convenient, especially when your heart is hurting.
