Hero Arts Sentiments with Distress Oxide Backgrounds

October 27, 2018

I hope you are having a wonderful fall weekend and getting a little crafty time in before Halloween. Have you had a chance to play along with our fun challenge this month?

Aren’t these colors gorgeous?

I recently bought this fun (and little bit snarky) stamp set from Hero Arts and thought that they would pair well with some distress oxide backgrounds. Warning: I got a little carried away making backgrounds in these beautiful colors and had way too much fun making cards.

Using Distress Oxides pads and re-inkers on photo paper or glossy paper always creates bright and beautiful backgrounds. Like I said, I always end up making way too many backgrounds so this was a pretty easy way to use them to make some fun cards. For these cards I mainly used re-inkers. You can check out my blog for more details if you want. Put the distress oxide ink on a craft mat and then lay the photo paper in it. If you want to make layers of color, just make sure the first layer is dry. Once you are happy with the results, wipe down the photo paper to reveal bright backgrounds.

Once I had all my background, I experimented with different ways to lay them out to make unique cards, including lines and swiping the paper different ways in the ink.

For this one I used a square die cut and turned the center square so the sentiment could fit.

And my last one is for my husband, who I love very much but yes sometimes it is a challenge. Lol

I hope I’ve given you some good ideas on how you can use your background with these awesome sets from Hero Arts and I can’t wait to see what you create! Thanks for stopping by!

Color inspiration – fall flower!

October 24, 2018

Happy Wednesday! Kim with you this morning sharing a fall flower inspired by the beautiful color palette for the current challenge!

Look at the gorgeous fall colors on this photo! Such fun to work with because it got me out of my comfort zone!

I decided to use a stamp set by Hero Arts that I love and haven’t used in a while – Marianne’s Flowers!

I die cut my panel using the Rounded Rectangle dies (they have become a staple in my stash). I then used my stamp positioner and stamped my flower using Copic friendly ink. I used RV99, RV69, RV66, RV63 for the plum color and YR09, YR04 and YR00 for the orange. I used YG’s for the leaves as they have a brownish base – YG99, YG93 and YG91.

I then used the Crossing Waves Stencil with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink using a very light hand and I did not need to re-ink my blending tool.

I then used the Wonderful Stamp and Cut with some specialty plum paper and stamped the You Are from the same set.  I finished off the card with a scattering of complimentary sequin colors and added white gel detail.

You still have time to join in on the challenge!

Thanks so much for taking the time!

Kim

Gold Leaf Peeper

October 19, 2018

I love fall my crafty friends – what about you? This month’s challenge is all about a beautiful fall color palette and I am back with another card design to share.

In case you forgot, here is a little reminder of the color scheme – so rich and beautiful. You can see my previous card here for additional inspiration.

This card was fun to make – lots of ink, some shimmer spray and gold embossing powder. OH MY!

Using a piece of Arches Coldpress Watercolor paper, I smooshed Rusty Hinge, Vintage Photo, Seedless Preserves, Tea Dye and Fire Brick distress inks all over the paper in a random order. In a small spray bottle I mixed Perfect Pearls and water and misted the paper until all the colors blended nicely. Leaving the panel to dry, I stamped my leaves with Versamark ink onto vellum and heat set with gold embossing powder. Using the coordinating dies, I cut out my images.

The inked panel, once dried, I rubbed the Versamark ink pad on the edges, stamped my sentiment and heat embossed all with gold powder. Adhering the panel to a side folding notecard with craft foam, I arranged my leaves and added twine for some interest. Scattered across the card, are gold sequins for sparkle!

Thank you for stopping by and I do hope to see your creations this month!
