Good morning! Emily Midgett here with you today for another “interactive” project, our theme for this month’s challenge.
For my project today, I decided to make that most classic of “interactive” projects: a shaker card. There is something so satisfying about watching the little shaker bits inside your finished card… plus, sparkles! I made this project using products from May’s My Monthly Hero kit from Hero Arts, but if you don’t have that particular kit, you can always use other mermaid stamps that you already have in your stash! To start, I used Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean, and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks to blend a pretty background, then used some pearlescent embossing paste and the pretty wave stencil included in the My Monthly Hero kit, but you could easily use the Waves stencil that Hero Arts regularly carries or even leave that step off if you don’t have stencils. I just liked the dimension that it added!
Next, I die cut the lovely Coral Reef Frame die from Hero Arts using some pretty turquoise card stock. I die cut and stamped one of the mermaids from the kit onto some watercolor paper, then heat embossed it and watercolored it with my Zig markers. I quite liberally applied clear Wink of Stella to my mermaid to give her some added shimmer and sparkle, because of course mermaids sparkle, right? 🙂 I added some Glossy Accents to the tail, as well. I also die cut some kelp and coral reef die cuts from watercolor paper and colored them with Zig markers and Wink of Stella, then placed them behind the mermaid die cut on my Coral Reef Frame from Hero Arts.
After I assembled my shaker and filled it with some pretty sequins from my stash, I stamped the greeting from Hero Arts’s Mer-mazing Messages on a strip of vellum and heat embossed it with white. I thought that the bright white would really pop from the rest of the tone-on-tone card. I added some liquid adhesive to the end of the strip and tucked it beneath the mermaid to hide it.
And that’s it for me! You still have plenty of time left to enter your own interactive project into our linkup to be eligible to win a prize from our generous sponsors, Chibitronics! Be sure to read the rules carefully so that your project and blog post are eligible for our contest!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Good luck, and have a marvelous week!
