Chinoiserie inspiration

May 22, 2017

Good morning! Emily here today with a pretty watercolored card using one of my favorite Hero Arts stamps that, unfortunately, is not in production anymore. (Major sadface!) It reminds me of chinoiserie pottery… I think that’s the proper term. You know that pretty china that has the beautiful floral patterns on it that are all over Pinterest? There are even weddings inspired by chinoiserie patterns. Amazing. It’s a match made in heaven when combined with one of my favorite dies from our awesome sponsor this month, Honey Bee Stamps.

I started by heat embossing this Large Floral background from Hero Arts onto some watercolor paper, then used my Zig markers and a wet paintbrush to color them in a super preppy pink and navy color scheme.

For the greeting, I used one of my favorite dies from Honey Bee Stamps. This large “thanks” die comes with the regularly proportioned thanks, as well as a “fluffier” version to provide a shadow. I simply cut the shadow from some sparkly gold glitter card stock, then added the coordinating die cut thanks in navy blue over the top. I trimmed down a rectangle of vellum, adhered the die cut “thanks” to it with some liquid adhesive, then used some clear dimensional adhesive (hidden behind the die cut so that it wouldn’t mar the vellum) to pop it up off of the card front. The final touch was to add a little twine bow from my stash.

Well, that’s all for me today! You still have a few days left to get your own entry in to our watercoloring challenge for the month of May. (You can find the linkup here.) The winner will receive a fabulous prize package from our wonderful sponsor this month: Honey Bee Stamps!
