Thanks to Newton’s Nook and a Challenge Winner!

April 30, 2016

We’d like to thank the very generous Newton’s Nook for collaborating with us this month. We just adore their products, and I know that we will be stalking them at each release.

This month our challenge was to be Clean & Simple. This can be more challenging than you would think! Here are some entries that caught our eye. And let me just tell you, this post could go on forever, so many amazing creations this month. If you have a few moments to spare, I highly recommend looking at the entries this month; so much inspiration.
Love the soft and pretty colors here. And the great design from Maria.

Pretty colors, impactful design. We really like this one, Rahmat.

Wow. The coloring on this card makes me smile, so it’s a perfect sentiment, Dee!
If you need someone to mail this to, I’m happy to accept. Wink, wink.

Love this elegant design from Walchow. Reminds me of a fabric pattern.

And now we go to random.org to choose the winner of a prize from Newton’s Nook.

Which is this pretty card, with the ever trendy succulents!
Look at that coloring! Random.org picked a good one, Conil!
Conil, please send us an email and we will organize your prize.
Thanks so much, everyone, for joining us this month. Come back tomorrow to find out about next month’s challenge.

Wishing You the Most Beautiful Day

April 29, 2016

I’m so excited about today’s card. Why? Well, I happen to be a huge fan of kraft paper. And in today’s card I’ve replaced the kraft paper with cork! Which I’m also a huge fan of, and in fact, we had cork floors in our last house. Yes, cork floors! If anyone is renovating and looking for awesome flooring, I can’t recommend them enough. Warm, comfy, held up to a big dog, and it’s humans for years! 🙂

This months’ challenge is clean and simple, and I think I nailed it. 🙂 I’ve had some issues with this in the past. Wondering if layers, or embellishments, make the cut. This time I don’t have to wonder if I’ve met the challenge. Not only have I met it, I showed it who’s boss. Which is funny, because I am one of the bosses. Ha!

I used some adhesive backed cork sheets and that amazing stamp set from Hero Arts that was in the April Monthly Hero kit. That’s sold out. That maybe if we all beg enough they will release as part of a future catalog? 🙂
Simple white embossing on the cork. I was careful not to keep the embossing gun in any one area too long, just in case the cork was susceptible to burning, but it worked perfectly.

Then I used a “new to me” glitter brush pen to add a bit of glitter to the stamped images. It’s very subtle on the cork, but I like the effect.

Make sure to join us in this month’s challenge. We’ve got a great prize up for grabs from Newton’s Nook! Winner will be announced tomorrow, so if you’ve not entered yet, do so soon!

Dreams Really Do Come True!!

April 28, 2016

Hello fellow Hero Art’s Friends!
Kathy, The Crafty Nurse here with you today for my second take on a this month’s “Clean & Simple” challenge in collaboration with Newton’s Nook.

For my card I began by stamping the adorable “Newton’s Naptime” in Momento Tuxedo Black Ink so that I could do some copic coloring. If you want to learn more about how to color animals, check out Kit & Clowder’s Animal course – it’s fabulous.
Newton's Kitty
We are enjoying all the “Clean & Simple” cards but there isn’t much time left before the challenge ends so let’s see what you’ve got!

Mother’s Day

April 26, 2016

This month our challenge has been

To me CAS has always meant lots of white space but with texture and interest.  Sometimes it’s difficult tho not to add more of a little bit of something.

Since Mother’s Day is only a few weeks away, I decided to use my new Layering Flowers set to make a bouquet.  Stamped a whole bunch of flowers and then started playing around with an arrangement.  I didn’t have any small flowers from Hero Arts so used some from another set to tuck in here and there.  When I was happy with it, I used Laurie Willison’s “press ‘n seal” method for keeping it in place.  Since the flowers were attached to the press ‘n seal, I was able to play around with the placement of the sentiment.  Stamped the sentiment and added the little strip of black stripe before finally putting it all together with a few sequins for sparkle.
There’s still a few days to create your CAS card and enter it in our challenge and be eligible to win a lovely prize from our generous sponsor, Newton’s Nook.  Thanks for visiting today.

Simple CAS Faux Watercoloring

April 25, 2016

Hi friends – welcome back to another Clean and Simple (CAS) post for Hero Arts and Newton’s Nook! If you haven’t already, you still have a few days to join our challenge; link up your CAS cards HERE!

http://www.newtonsnookdesigns.com/

Thank you to Newton’s Nook for the treasures to play with; we have ALL so enjoyed your great products!
I took some Ranger watercolor paper and used MFT Blueprints to cut two small ‘canvases’ for my faux watercoloring. The stamp set is Hero Arts For You layering flowers – so simple to create a watercolor look. I used the Misti to line up the layers of the flower, the leaves were stamped individually using an acrylic block. Once I had all the stamping done, I misted the watercolor paper with water and let it run as much as it wanted! Once the flowers/leaves were dry, I added a soft wash of Peacock Feathers, and again once totally dry, I stamped the Newton’s Nook sentiment from Beautiful Wings in Hero Arts Black.

can you see the sparkle?

You think being CAS, I’d just pop those canvases on some cards and be done huh? Silly thought! HA! I cut two base cards (4″ x 4″) splattered on some distress ink then sprayed with shimmer mist – can you see the shimmer in the close up? I finished each card off with some vellum, washi tape (cut down to a smaller size) and some MFT designer paper. The focal point was popped up with fun foam.

Thanks for stopping by; we hope you’ll join our CAS challenge! Take care!
Hugs,
