Let Your Dreams Take Sail

August 25, 2015

Hi, Jessica here!  This month we are collaborating with Neat and Tangled and my card for today uses some of their cute stamps and sequins!

Here’s my card!
IMG_4322
To start off I blended salty ocean distress ink onto a piece of white cardstock.  I didn’t worry too much about getting a super smooth blend because I knew I’d be layering a background stamp over it.  And actually, the variation in coverage gives more shadow and dimension to the waves!  After that dried I stamped it with the Hero Arts wave background stamp inked with salty ocean, mermaid lagoon, and chipped sapphire distress ink. I just dabbed the pads onto the back of the stamp randomly.  To finish the background I stamped the sentiment from another Hero Arts stamp set onto the panel.
Next I stamped the sailboat from Neat and Tangled onto a piece of cardstock and colored it with copic markers.  I fussy cut the boat and adhered it to the background with foam mounting tape.  Finally I added a sprinkling of sequins in various shades of blue and then mounted that panel to a dark blue card base!
Thanks so much for visiting today and don’t forget to play along with our current challenge: As Clean and Simple As Can Be!
As always our super generous sponsor:
Is awarding a gift certificate to one random lucky entry!

Happy Happy for you!

August 23, 2015

Hello everyone,

Gayatri here today with mu solo post. I have a happy card to share with you today.

During my recent trip to a craft store, I drifted towards the fabric section look at the patterns on the fabric that caught my eye. I got inspired by the prints on the fabrics which looked like that on the stationery. Clean lines, stylized repeated patterns and solid colours on white background just popped out at me. I wanted to recreate that on my card.  When I came back home, I looked through my Hero Arts stamp sets to find a stamp image that I can used replicate the pattern I saw at the store.
Hero Arts/Basic Grey stamp set called Shine Bright has this stylized flower and leaves pattern which I found I can use to create that background. All I did was to stamp this image on the card front repeatedly with flower centre facing each other, in three columns. The trick to get them in evenly spaced is to stamp the end columns first, then the middle column leaving equal spacing on left and right. I used Versafine Onyx Black ink to stamp these because I like the true black colour this ink gives. Did you know that once you heat set this ink, you can use copic markers to colour them? I did exactly that and my copic colours did not bleed or smudge the black ink. You can see on my card how clean it is. There is a new tip for you if you don’t know about it already.

For the sentiment, I die cut three “happy” from Happy stamp and die set using scrap piece of orange cardstock. They were stacked and glued in place. I used Sakura glitter gel pen to add glitter on the top layer of the “happy”. I adhered this on a smaller vellum panel. For the smaller sentiment, I stamped the second” happy” from Shine Bright stamp set and the “for you” from Happy stamp and die set on a strip of white cardstock, trimmed one edge at an angle and adhered below the “happy” die cut using foam adhesives. This vellum panel is adhered on the card front using foam adhesive stuck behind the white sentiment strip.  Finally to tie all the black elements together from the background and sentiment, I have added Onyx sequins both 6mm and 4mm from Pretty Pink Posh. You can see the dimension the stacked “happy” and popped up secondary sentiment gives in the photo below.

I am pretty pleased with how the background turned out. The card gives a high end stationary feel with the background, clean design and simple layering. Hope you like it!

We have a new challenge on the blog called As clean & Simple as Can be!

Playing with my new waterbase markers

August 21, 2015

Hi all, Isabel here again as happy as a child with a new toy: my 36 set of Zig Clean Color Real Brush. And I just started. First project that I´ve made is colouring an image after stamping and clear embossing. The cardstock base is Neenah Desert Storm, so the ink doesn´t move too much. My next step will be watercolor paper and adding water to the inks.

Here is my first card, using the Tropical background stamp by Hero Arts.

I used the markers 40, 41 and 45 to get the effect going from clear to dark. The cardstock line added is coloured with the darkest marker trying to match everything.

The central colour of my second card is brown. One of the final embellishments that I added is the ‘happy’ chipboard from Create a Smile. I used the markers 60, 65, 72 and 94.

I hope you like the cards. Remember that yesterday a new challenge started. Join us and have the chance of getting a gift voucher for Simon Says Stamp, our favourite shop online and loved sponsor.
