Okay okay, that’s alright to say from one junkie to another, right? Let me introduce myself….I’m Sandy Allnock. I already know a bunch of you – and you know me – because of Operation Write Home, the org I founded back in 2007 to support deployed service members with handmade cards. They’ve been keeping in touch with home ever since – and we won’t stop til they’re all home! You can click HERE to read more about our current needs; it’s less urgent than in the past since so many are coming home. (YaHOO!)
Hello Hero Arts junkies! 🙂
You might think I’d have used one of the fundraiser stamps that Hero Arts makes to benefit OWH (you can check them all out HERE!)…but I got all KINDS of excited when I heard the theme was “favorite things.” Not that the OWH fundraiser stamps aren’t on that favorite list. But it got me thinking about my Play Drawer.
The Play Drawer has awesome goodies in it that just haven’t been tried yet. Or used in a way that I have an idea for. Going to that drawer gets my mojo going, because the toys call my name!
I decided to finally work on an idea I had for the Birds and Leaves stencil. I got out some letterpress paper, Ranger’s Texture Paste, and made the stencil image white at first. But then the ‘aha’ moment came when I remembered hearing that embossing on paste is a thing that works. Oh boy. I dug out Tim’s Distress Embossing Powders (peeled paint and butterscotch) that have been stuck in that drawer for eons….and I tried it. And oh how cool it came out! I sprinkled a little of both powders, mixing them on the image, and when heating it, it gets…well kinda puffy! And scratchy, like sandpaper.
Here’s a close up view of all that texture and dimension. Fun, eh? I added Stickles for the berries (and turned the nuts into berries, since it’s a Christmas card and not a fall one!).
I considered a sentiment panel on the outside, but then decided a sentiment inside would be nice. With, of course, some stickles and Glossy Accents! (I’m a stickler for not having glitter fall off my cards….it can get our heroes killed since glitter can make them visible to night vision goggles. So Glossy Accents is my friend!)
If you want to see how I did it, head over to my blog where
I posted a video today showing this card being made!
That’s my card share for you today…hope you’re enjoying this entire crazy month filled with goodies to feast your eyes on! All these ideas for Christmas….CASE one a day and maybe you’ll be done with your cards before Dec 24th!
