Old and New Together Again

May 17, 2013

Hello crafters!
It’s Kelly here with a post about combining the old and new in different ways.
I started my Hero Arts collection only a few short years ago but as I purchase new stamps sometimes I find myself leaving those old loves behind. I know I’ve seen many of you talk about the same problem. Today I decided to combine a new stamp and an old (actually it’s the very first Hero Arts stamps I ever owned) on three different cards.
The cards are also different in the fact that I created them with more layers to less layers. That way you can see how the combination works for you no matter what your style 🙂
Today we are using the new Pinstripes Background and the old Life is not Perfect
This is the card with the most layers. I stamped the pinstripe and then die cut my butterflies. Once they were cut I colored them with distress ink and pieced them back in. I added multiple banners, twine, and rhinestones to complete the card.
This card is middle of the road, which is actually more my style. I stamped the pinstripes, colored with distress ink and then die cut my butterflies. I love how the rainbow stands out on the white card base. Two clear rhinestones accent the sentiment.
Last the bare bones, minimalist approach. 🙂 I used the butterfly I die cut from the second card and a simple sentiment. Add three rhinestones and done!
Speaking of minimalist . . . our current challenge is Clean and Simple. There is plenty of time to play along it just started two days ago 🙂 Hopefully these projects inspire you to try a different style or mix up your stamps or maybe both 🙂
This will be my last post before my “maternity” leave but don’t worry I’ll be around blog stalking 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you all make!

Mission Ignition #3: Charm Cards

May 16, 2013

I am returning to the color series for A Blog Named Hero
This time I am going to tackle:
1. First I am going to show you the sketch I am using for all the cards today. It is by Lisa Spangler for Studio Calico:

a rainbow is ALWAYS a great color scheme choice. Best part is, you don’t need any reference for it!! So I made this:

2. I love paper packs and use them as color inspiration sometimes. For the next card, I used the Be Amazing paper pack from My Minds Eye.
and the sketch to make what I like to call a CHARM CARD
The card was inspired by charm bracelets. Now I don’t wear much jewelry, but I do love the look of trinkets on a bracelet.
3. Lastly, I chose this great collection by Basic Grey called Fact or Fiction for my color inspiration:
to make another charm card for you all:
**NOTE** I recently bought a cropped jean jacket from Forever 21 (my first purchase from there EVER). The jacket had that little tag attached to it that you see on the card. It was so pretty, I had to use it!
Sooo… if you want to make your very own CHARM CARD, here is what you need:
  1. tags (any size)
  2. washi tape
  3. flair
  4. wood veneers
  5. cute images
  6. twine
  7. a background stamp

Thanks, and I will see you next month!

The Sketch Shall Inspire!

May 13, 2013

Hello Friends!

Melissa here with some inspiration from May’s sketch that Chari Moss created for us and fellow DT chickadee Leslie posted about HERE.

I knew I wanted to use the sketch and some Hero Arts layering paper in the sunshine family. Then I pulled a stamp set I hadn’t used and went to it!
The house is colored with Copics, I’m still learning! I thought the Cherry Red Timeless Twine added a good punch of color since the color palette is very warm and yellow-y.

It’s hard to see but I added some ClearSnap smooch to the windows, it’s purdy in real life 😉

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week!

Graphic Stamps

May 11, 2013

Hi everyone!
It’s Cristina here and today I have a couple of cards for you that were inspired by this card.
I made that card for the His and Hers class from Online Card Classes, and I knew I had to try something like that with other graphic stamps that I rarely used. So here is card number one:

I used one of the labels from this stamp set:

Basically I just stamped it randomly using different inks, but I have to admit that I did use my Stamp-a-ma-jig, as it makes it a bit easier. For my second card, I used another of the labels from the same stamp set:

I stamped it over patterned paper and cut it out. Isn’t that design cool? I used kraft as my card base and added some bling.
For my last card, I used the same stamp that started all of this, the hexagons from this set:

And here is the card:

I used pink neon paper for the border, and although you can’t see it very well on the picture, I added a couple of strips of “homemade” glitter paper 😉
I hope you look through your stash for some of this graphic stamps and give it a go!
And don’t forget that you still have a couple of days to enter our latest challenge!
Thanks for stopping by!
