Antique Flowers!

May 19, 2013

Hi friends! Wanda here on the blog today to share a card, and some of my favorite tips for making “antique” cards! How are you today? Thanks for coming by to see us at A Blog Named Hero! We love it when you visit us! And, a new challenge went up a few days ago – make sure you enter!
My card today was inspired by a beautiful dogwood tree I came upon a few weekends ago while out taking pictures. It was the loveliest shade of pink….and I knew I wanted to make a card using the Hero Arts Dogwood stamp!

I stamped my image twice in brown ink onto watercolor paper and let it dry overnight (because I knew I wanted to watercolor). Then I used Distress Inks and my water pen to gently color pink onto the petals. I cut out a flower from my second image and layered it on my card.

Turns out that those beautiful flowers I saw are exactly the same color as Victorian Velvet Distress Ink! To watercolor using your ink pads, gently press the lid down into the pad so that some ink goes onto the lid. Then just dip your water pen into the ink! Instant watercolor paint!

These new HA sayings are my favorite font ever! I use them all the time. I stamped part of a big word stamp up in the corner for some more visual interest…

Here is a view of my layers….

Wanda’s tips for ‘antiquing’ cards:  Use brown ink instead of black ink to stamp your images and sentiments,  Distress the edges and corners of your cards with ink – and try folding up part of the layer,  Add some text overlay,  Try watercoloring for soft and old looking images, and finally, use cream cardstock or watercolor paper!
