Kraft – 2 Ways

August 27, 2012

Hey everyone!

Today I have 2 cards to share that I created for the last ABNH challenge using kraft cardstock as a focal point. My blog day here always falls after the challenge ends, but I still like to take part and create something. And this one was a favourite because I love kraft cardstock! 🙂

For my cards, I decided to create 2 very similar cards with one big difference. I paired the kraft with two of my favourite colours – Kraft / Black and Kraft / White.

A Simple Hi (Kraft with White)

For this card, I paired the kraft with white cardstock and white embossing powder. The starbursts are embossed in white and then I added brads to all the centers. I wanted to use bright colours for the brads and sentiment so I used my American Crafts Zing embossing powders. (I used all the neon colours so they ‘pop’ off the card. My brads were white and I just embossed them all to make them the colours I wanted.

A Simple Hi (Kraft with Black)

For this card I kept the design almost identical – I just moved the starbursts to the other side and used black cardstock and embossing powder instead of white. The card takes on a completely different look with the darker colour. I embossed the brads again with the Zing embossing powder to give them a bright colour.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today.
I’ll be back with the rest of the Chalk Ink girls on the 1st with the next challenge!! 🙂

Stamping an Old Set 3 Ways

August 25, 2012

Hello fellow Hero Arts addicts!
It’s Simone here, and today I have 3 different cards for you that use the same stamp set and from a request on the ABNH Flickr group I decided to look through my stash of Hero Arts and use one of my older stamp sets, Whoo Loves You, which hasn’t been used in quite a while!

I wanted to keep all of my cards clean and simple so for my first one I chose to use a black and white colour theme.  To add a bit of dimension I added some Hero Arts Pearl Hearts to the tree and covered the rest using Ranger Glossy Accents to add a bit of shine.

Next up I used the cute little heart owl from the set and the matching sentiment to create this quick CAS card.  I stamped the owl and the sentiment onto some Kraft cardstock before again stamping the owl onto some red HA layering paper and paper piecing it onto my card base using some adhesive foam.  Again I added some Hero Arts Pearl Hearts and covered the little owl with glossy accents.

Lastly I used the gorgeous little squirrel stamp from the set together with the tree trunk to create this next card.  I  found some woodgrain ribbon from American Crafts in my stash which I think works perfectly on this card.  Like the owl in the card above, the squirrel has been paper pieced onto my card base (minus the adhesive foam) using some brown cardstock before being covered with glossy accents.  To embellish this card I also used some more Hero Arts Pearl Hearts using the light pink ones to add a bit of colour to the card.

Well I hope this gives you all a few ideas on how to use your stamps 3 ways, as well as breaking out some of your older ones!  It’s amazing how quickly we forget to use them once we buy new stamps, but I’ll definitely be more conscious in trying to use them a bit more!

Thanks for joining me today and enjoy your weekend!

Gettin’ “krafty”

August 21, 2012

Hello, stampy friends! Lisa here, and I have two cards for you today! Both are in line with our current challenge going on, The Krafty Crafter…

..which is sponsored by the ever-generous Simon Says Stamp! 🙂

My first card uses one of my favorite color combinations when it comes to using kraft card stock. The pink, white, and kraft kind of remind me of Neapolitan ice cream! 🙂 Also, one of my favorite techniques when using kraft is coloring on it with Prismacolor pencils:

The Prismacolor pencils are very pigmented, artist-grade colored pencils, so they show up really well! Did you also happen to notice that I used one of the sketches from the current Hero Arts challenge? I simply turned it 90 degrees to the right. There was also a request over at A Blog Named Hero’s Flickr group to see some older stamps used, so I used some older favorites that haven’t seen ink in quite a while. 🙂

My next card uses another favorite color combo: black, white, and kraft!

It’s a crisp combination that depending on the varying amounts of each color, can also be very dramatic. Once again, I based my card on another one of the sketches for the challenge. Instead of stamping on the focal point panel, I dry embossed it instead.

Hope you’re playing along in our challenge! Just upload your creation using kraft card stock or ink HERE to be in the drawing for a gift voucher to spend at Simon Says Stamp!

Thanks for joining me today. I hope you’re having a “krafty” week! 🙂
