Operation Safe & Sound

June 30, 2012

Hi Ladies,

*This is our second post today, for Challenge Winners, please scroll down or click HERE*

Melissa here with a special post today.  Our dear friend Christy’s home was broken into and a lot of her families things were either destroyed or taken. Some things held such sentimental value that nothing will replace it.  What makes our community so remarkable is that we are there for each other even though we can’t physically be near our friends. These “people” violated her home, the place where we are supposed to feel the most safe, where we raise our children and where we sleep in peace. I can not even imagine what she is going through or the loss she has endured.  Dealing with the police and insurance company has been and continues to be exhausting and frustrating for Christy and her family. She has been updating her facebook page with some details.

Some of Christy’s friends have come together to help. We are of course making cards for her because that’s what we do, right? But ultimately, the expense of trying to get her family back on their feet will be somewhat of a strain. Imagine having to replace household items, all while trying to rebuild a sense of security that we all most times take for granted.
So, we’re asking for your help. We’ve tried to make it convenient for you to help Christy and her family. There’s a PayPal button on each of our blogs. We are asking that if its your hearts desire, that you donate whatever you can to help Christy and her family regain a sense of safety and security.  NOTHING is too small. Every little bit will make all the difference. Our goal is to raise $1,000 to help cover the costs of food, lodging and replacing at least some of the items taken.
Thank you for even reading this post in its entirety.  If you’re interested in seeing all of the cards, a full list of girls who are participating in the card drive  is available below as well as at the Lawnscaping Challenge blog (Christy is a DT member on the Lawnscaping Challenge blog).

Thank you so much for reading through the post. And if you’re donating, big huge hugs 🙂 100% of the donations will be going to Christy and her family. I’ll do another post in a couple of weeks updating everyone on how Christy is doing and what we were able to raise.

Just click on the “donate” button below and you’ll be taken to Paypal.

Hugs all around,
Melissa

More Ways to Stretch Your Stamps

June 28, 2012

Hey everyone!

We’re getting even closer to the start date of the new online card class coming up called ‘Stretch Your Stamps’. There is going to be so many great examples of ways to get even more out of your stamps then just their intended use. Today I have a couple of cards that show a fresh new way to use the large flower image from the Hero Arts / Sizzix ‘Bold Pop’ Stamp & Die Combo set.

Thanks For Being A Friend

This first card uses the flower as the top part of a windmill diecut. I cut out the original windmill design (from Kerri Bradford), cut the top of it off and replaced it with the flower from the Bold Pop stamp set. I actually stamped and diecut two flowers and adhered them together with foam adhesive for added dimension.

You Are My Sunshine

For my second card, I stamped the flower image with pink mid tone shadow ink onto a lighter pink cardstock. I then cut around the edges to make it into a circle. Once I finished that, I cut it in half and adhered it to green cardstock. I cut the green cardstock so it was just a thin border around the outside edge and my watermelon was born! 🙂
I cut out a bite mark and also added black seeds to finish it off.

I hope these two cards inspire you to look at your stamps in new ways. Who knew a flower could be a windmill and a watermelon?!? 🙂

Stretching Your Stamps Further!

June 25, 2012

Hi Everyone!
It’s Simone here and today I thought I’d share with you a couple of cards I made in practice for the upcoming Stretch Your Stamps online card class.
To “stretch” my stamps I decided to use the same stamp set to create two different cards.  One a masculine card, and the other a feminine card.  Here is what I came up with:

For my masculine card I chose to use the thanks flower stamp from the Untitled Love stamp set by Hero Arts.  I love there new Art of the Card line.  Such gorgeous designs.

To create this card I simply stamped the thanks stamp a number of time onto some snow layering paper using three different mid-tone shadow ink colours, Stone Wash, Cup O’ Joe and Pool.  I then cut the images out and adhered them in a pyramid style to my card base, using adhesive foam only on my very last (top) piece.  To finish off the card I added some Hero Arts Hero Hues Dots for embellishment.

Next up, I used some other stamps in the same set and some different coloured shadow inks to create a whole new look, and something more girly 🙂

To create this card I stamped the Hello and Love stamps using the Butter Bar and Bubble Gum mid-tone shadow inks, directly onto my card base.  I then added some Hero Hues Dots again as well as some yellow designer twine.

These stamp sets are so versatile and fun to play with, you can create many different looks with them.  I could even swap the colours around of both and have a feminine Thanks card and a cute Hello Love card perfect for a guy!

I hope this inspires you to use your stamp sets in more ways than one?!  I can’t wait for the fun online card class to start.  For more information, click here.

Thank you for stopping by!  Have a wonderful day 🙂
