Interactive Clock Card

May 27, 2012

Hey everyone!

It’s Steph here and I want to share a fun card I made with a great Hero Arts stamp set ‘All The Time.’ I have had this set for a few months but it has never been inked so I figured now was as good a time as any to bust it out! I love love love clock stamps and sentiments that go with. I think they work perfectly for masculine cards and there are so many great things you can do with them to make them fun! 🙂

This card includes some fun interactive elements – moving clock hands and an action wobble under the main clock. So fun!

And the video below shows how I made the card

3D Hearts Tutorial

May 25, 2012

Hi Everyone!
Happy Friday!  It’s Simone here and today I thought I’d share with you all a picture tutorial on how to create some fun 3D embellishments like the heart on my card below.

Now there are actually two different ways you can get what I like to call 3D stamped embellishments just like this.  Today, I’m sharing with you the really easy way – the score, fold and layer technique.  The second way you can create 3D stamped embellishments is by what I like to call the “accordian fold” technique.  I promise to show you that one in more detail in the future.

First what I do is I stamp my images, in this case the gorgeous Four Hearts Cling Stamp set onto some some Hero Arts layering paper.  I’ve chosen to use Aubergine, Iris and Snow.  The snow cardstock piece is going to be my card base, so I have stamped one of the hearts onto this as a base and guide for my other hearts to adhere to.

Before I go any further with my hearts, I then also stamp my sentiment onto my card base panel.  It’s easier to stamp this first because once the 3D heart is assembled it gives the card height making it harder to line up and stamp a sentiment where you want it.

Next I cut each of the hearts out and score a line down them from point to point, and fold them in half.  I chose to only use three of the four hearts in the end but you can really use as many as you like!  It all comes down to personal preference.

To adhere them all to each other I ran bit of Ranger Glossy Accents down the back of the fold line and adhering it to the fold line of the next heart, and so on.  To adhere the last heart to the heart on the card base, you just use the same technique – add some glossy accents to the fold line.  Then once the glue has set all you need to do is bend each heart to how you want them stand (ie distance wise from each other).  To finish off my card I adhered my card base panel to a folded card base I had earlier dry embossed before finally adding some little pearl hearts.

And that’s it!  Your done!  Here is a close up of how the heart looks.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask 🙂

Enjoy your Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

Newspaper Background 3D Flowers

May 23, 2012

Hello, hello!

Melissa here with a photo tutorial showing how to make a 3D flower using Hero Arts Newspaper Background! I’ll be using an EK Success Flower Punch but I’ll also show you how to make another type of 3D flower using your scissors-I call it the “pom pom” style.

Super easy-don’t worry if you don’t have a flower punch-there’s the 2nd technique that anyone with some scissors can do! Grab some coffee and take a look with me!

Supplies:
Hero Arts Newspaper background stamp
Flower punch
VersaMark ink pad
Hero Arts white embossing powder
Flower punch
Trimmer
Heat gun
Glue gun
Pencil (or something similar)
Distress Ink (optional)
Button & Pearl (optional)

And another 3D flower option is kind of festive-looks like a “pom-pom”. You make fringe & roll it up! This is super fun to have the kiddos join in as they can color the paper and then you can do the rest!

1. Stamp a design on paper about 3″ x 12″ (exact measurements totally not required!). Cut a curvy line and then cut fringe.
2. This is the back side of photo in #1, just trying to show the fringe. Ink up if you want!
3. Trim the stamped and fringed piece to a manageable piece, leave a little edge so the fringe doesn’t turn into confetti strips!
4. This is what you should have now. Since I curve the edge, when I trim the bottom piece off, sometimes I curve that as well, you’ll see why, just go with it.

1. You should have a piece that looks something like this. 12″ long, doesn’t matter how wide, do whatever you want.
2. The back side of #1, just showing how much of an edge I leave.
3. Roll it up! I put the stamped image on the inside of the roll, you’ll see why. But if you’re using patterned paper or the kids colored the paper, it doesn’t really matter what direction you roll! Hot glue the end.

1. Now just fan out the “petals”, get rough with it to give the paper some attitude! Ta-da! Told you that was easy! See how tall the base is? If you want a lower profile, just make that edge width smaller.
2. By cutting a curve at the beginning, the “petals” are different heights, adds interest.
I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial! This is my first tutorial so if something doesn’t make sense, ask and I’ll try to clarify!

Showin’ some love…

May 21, 2012

Hello, stampy friends, and happy Monday! 🙂 Lisa here, with a few projects I’ve made for the Dust ‘Em Off challenge. Going through my stash, I knew I would probably find some stamps that had never seen any ink… but I was quite surprised to discover just how many! *GASP* I knew I had to fix that right away! So I decided to play along:

Remember that really cool Hero Arts Starburst stamp? Here, I stamped it twice on white card stock – once in black ink and once in Hero’s Iris chalk ink (something else I’ve had for a while now, but not used yet). A little fussy cutting, some pop dots for layering, and voilá… an old favorite is new again!

And who could forget THIS gorgeous beauty?! While this Large Flower cling is a fabulous image for coloring, I still wanted to do something a little different. So I went with the spotlight technique. Stamp your image twice on to white card stock with black ink. Color one of the images, cut out just a portion of it, and lay it over the UN-colored black and white image. It’s a very dramatic effect!

What about this beautiful stamp? The Floral Swirl Vine is a really versatile image – great to color as a focal point, or for tone-on-tone stamping as a background. On this card, I did the former. 🙂 I stamped and heat embossed in black, then colored with a Copic marker and white gel pen. I also embossed the sentiment on to a strip of vellum card stock, which takes heat embossing much better than the regular weight vellum. HELPFUL TIP: A trick to adhering vellum to your project without any adhesive showing (if your design allows for it), is to wrap the vellum around the card stock panel and adhere to the back… THEN adhere your panel to your card base. 😉

And finally… although these images aren’t particularly older, they have been sitting on my desk a while, waiting ever-so patiently to get inked up, so that’s exactly what I did. 🙂 The sentiment was cut out with a Nestabilities Label 4 die and then trimmed on top and bottom, just for something a little different. Another item on this card that I had never used was Hero’s Cerulean layering paper. I don’t use a lot of blue in my card making for some reason, so this seemed like the perfect time to do so!

So what stamps, papers, and inks do YOU have that could use some (more) love? Get ’em out, dust ’em off, make something FABULOUS with them, and then link up your creation HERE, and you could win a $25 gift voucher to our wonderful sponsor, Simon Says Stamp!

Thanks for joining me today! I hope your week is off to a fabulous start! xo

Using “negative” die cuts

May 19, 2012

Hi everyone!

It’s Cristina here today, and I have a photo tutorial for my first day on the blog. Here is the card:

I love using die cuts on my cards and sometimes they are too detailed to use as a normal die cut, so then I just use the “negative” side. This technique gives you a perfect CAS card with a striking image as a focal point. Here is how I made it:

1. Get your die cut ready. In my case I used the Silhouette, but normal dies can be used for this technique too.
2. Cut a white piece of cardstock the same size as the front of the card, and color it using Peacock Feathers distress ink and an ink applicator.
3 and 4. Using a cotton bud and the die cut for reference, I mark the placed where I want to apply the other colors of ink.
5. Cut down a piece of foam so it’s easier to apply the ink in small places.
6. Blend different inks, to give the image some depth.

7. Once your colored panel is finished, it won’t look pretty, but it doesn’t matter, cause the die cut will cover it. Take some Perfect Pearls mixed with water, and spray it a couple of times, just so the inks blend a bit, and it gives the paper great shine.
8. Stamp the sentiment onto the die cut piece using Spice Tin ink.
9. Add dimensionals to the back of the die cut. You will need lots of adhesive!
10. Glue the panels together and to the front of a card base, and your card is finished!

Hero Arts has a lot of die cuts for the Silhouette that work perfectly with this technique:

But if you don’t own a Silhouette, there are a lot of dies in the market that you can use too:

I hope you give this technique a try, and don’t forget that we have a challenge going on, so go make a card this weekend and join us, you could win a great prize!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!
